Brian Cashman: 'Desire' for Cliff Lee Same Despite Carl Crawford Deal

Brian CashmanLAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- If the Yankees are rattled by Boston's bombshell signing of free-agent outfielder Carl Crawford to a seven-year, $142 million deal early Thursday morning, they aren't showing it publicly.

General manager Brian Cashman, addressing the media after the Rule 5 draft, said the Crawford signing does little to change their pursuit of Cliff Lee, the top starter on the market this winter.

"Our desire is the same today as it was prior to that signing," Cashman said, referring to Boston's acquisition of Crawford.

"We just will do what makes sense for us," he added. "I'll just wait to hear from (Cliff).

"(He and his agent Darek Braunecker) have the information necessary."
