The Ashes: England Cricket Seize Control on Day 1 with Australia 98 All Out

England have made up for their dismal performance in Melbourne by pulling a cracker out of the bag on Boxing Day.

On the first day of the fourth test, Australia recorded their worst-ever test result against England. The Aussies couldn't even get their team to a century, ending up on 98 all out. England now are in touching distance on retaining the Ashes, as Tremlett and Anderson get four wickets each.

Strauss' decision to make Australia bat first has paid off, as the seamer-friendly conditions have given England a great start. At the close of OK on day one, England were leading by 50 runs, on 157-0. With only one day gone in this test, the odds are on England's side to go 2-1 up.

Clarke was the Aussies' best batter of the day managing to rack up an amazing 20 runs. Strauss and Cook are already on 64 and 80 respectively.

England will be hoping to stretch their lead when play starts on the second day at the MCG, after they made history as they took the score beyond 98. It was the first time since 1912 that England's openers had given their side a first-innings lead against Australia.

The Ashes series is a thrill to watch and looks like it will be great viewing for the next few days, especially for the English. As it is Christmas I can't help to mention that I have written this entire article on an iPad, a lovely present given to me by Santa.
