The Milwaukee Bucks went 2-1 on their road trip, beating the Lakers and Kings, while losing to the Blazers. Earl Boykins was the main contributing factor to these victories. Earl finished with 22 points against the Lakers and finished with 19 points against the Kings. He has stepped up in the loss of Brandon Jennings and has become the backup to Keyon Dooling who now starts.
Within the past two games Boykins has gone 19-40 for field goals and 5-7 for three pointers. I won’t give all the credit to Earl though. I think that Earl may be a player that needs to be in for awhile to get warmed up. Because in both wins, when the fourth quarter came around, Boykins exploded. With Jennings in the starting lineup Boykins didn’t get as much playing time because Dooling was the backup. Making Earl a third string who only played in large leads or when the Bucks were being blown out by another team. With Jennings not injured Earl only got in 15 out of the 28 games. I would much rather have Jennings playing but with Earl’s great play, I am happy that the Bucks had someone like him to back up Dooling.
Another major part of the Bucks good road play was the great bench play.
But who on the bench all stepped up with Gooden, Maggette, and Delfino out?
Well, Boykins comes off the bench but besides him, Mbah a Moute, Brockman, and Sanders all contributed to the Cali wins.
Ersan came around in the LA game dropping 16 points while pulling down 11 rebounds (6 offensive).
Sanders showed impressive defense against the Kings, blocking 4 shots as well as pulling down 4 rebounds.
If Boykins and the Bucks bench can keep up the good play with Jennings and Delfino out, they should be able to keep the Bucks on track to make the playoffs.
