Boise State Broncos vs. Utah Utes: MAACO Bowl Las Vegas

Chris Petersen Kyle WhittinghamBoise State and Utah certainly had higher hopes for their respective seasons a few months ago. At one point, both were ranked as top-six teams in the nation. The Utes began 8-0 while the Broncos began 10-0.

Instead, they square off Dec. 22 in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

No. 20 Utah was blasted by TCU and then pretty well dominated by Notre Dame. The Utes squeaked out wins over San Diego State and rival BYU to close the season 10-2.

No. 10 Boise State lost a heartbreaker to then-No. 19 Nevada before responding to throttle Utah State and finish 11-1.

The Broncos are led by Heisman Trophy finalist Kellen Moore, who was second nationally in passing efficiency rating. He threw for 3,506 and 33 touchdowns while completing 71 percent of his passes and throwing just five picks. Titus Young and Austin Pettis are the prolific receivers while Doug Martin gives the offense balance as a 1,000-yard rusher.

The team is balanced as well, as Boise State yields just 259.3 yards and 13.6 points per contest -- both good enough for fourth in FBS.
