It was part "Birdcage," part Bollywood and part Dean Martin roast. Wednesday's player's night at the Monte Carlo Masters was evidently a rollicking affair, featuring male players in drag, big international dance numbers and Janko Tipsarevic bringing down the house with an impression of his good pal, Novak Djokovic.
From the ATP website:
As dessert, a delicious tiramisu, was being served following a three-course dinner, Djokovic took to the stage to emcee the event, and starred in several of the sketches himself. Those sat in the audience [...] were entertained as the stars of the show bravely masqueraded as their colleagues in send-up sketches and, in some cases, dance routines that had earlier required ATP trainers to treat their first case of stiletto-related injuries...
Viktor Troicki and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga [...] were among those who took to the stage, but it was arguably Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Rohan Bopanna and Janko Tipsarevic who stole the show. "The Indo-Pak Express" showed off their dance moves with a Bollywood routine to "Jai-Ho" [the song from the end of "Slumdog Millionaire" -- CC], which Djokovic also joined in with, and Tipsarevic had the audience rocking with a send-up of his Davis Cup teammate, Djokovic.
No video has been released of the event which is a disgrace on par with the first few rounds of Indian Wells not being broadcast on television. It's 2011 people! This thing should have been on UStream, easy. You're telling me Tipsarevic's iPhone couldn't have uploaded some clips to YouTube?
Both world No. 1s were at the event. Rafael Nadal watched from the seats, as did Caroline Wozniacki, who posted a picture of her and Jo-Wilifred Tsonga:
Only one of those people looks happy to be taking that picture.
