The Super Six was a brilliant idea. Showtime stuck out its neck to bring together various promoters and most of the top fighters at 168 pounds. The tourney hasn't gone according to plan because of injuries. Mikkel Kessler is out and so is Jermain Taylor. New blood is on board in the form of Allan Green and Glen Johnson. Some fans like the fight and some don't.
Either way, it's a quality match that helps fill the Juan Manuel Lopez-Rafael Marquez undercard in Las Vegas this weekend and both fighters have done their part to fan the prefight flames.
"He's not a fighter. More than likely, he's going to box or run," said Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KOs). "I'm sure he's gonna want some space."
Green said he's in there to fight.
"I'm the younger fast stronger guy. If need be, and I have to sit in there, in the pocket and throw a few combinations on him and force him back, I will," said Green.
Age may be the biggest advantage for the 31-year-old Green. Johnson, 42, is battling father time.
"I'm feeling good. I'm fast. I'm energetic," said Johnson.
Green (29-2, 20 KOs) isn't buying that Johnson took a dip in the fountain of youth.
"I can look at Glen and tell that's not the case. Somewhat reminds me of how I looked and how I felt before the Ward fight," said Johnson.
The winner automatically moves into the Super Six semifinals.
