The NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers will be welcomed by President Barack Obama during their East Coast road trip this coming Monday, the White House has confirmed. The Lakers are not, however, going to be hosted at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.Traditionally, championship sports teams are honored at the White House, but if you're the Lakers, that's so last year.
Instead, the plan is for the team to join Obama at a community service event at a nearby Washington D.C. Boys and Girls Club -- or as it is infamously known in NBA circles, the organization that hosted LeBron James for his television special titled "The Decision" in July where he announced his intention to take his talents to South Beach and sign with the Miami Heat.
Obama has a fondness for the game of basketball, but there's no word yet if there's any type of pickup game planned involving the President and members of the two-time defending NBA champions. Obama did play in a private game with some NBA stars over the summer, and he recently required 12 stitches after taking an elbow to the lip in a friendly game on Nov. 26.
