Doncaster fire Donny Dog mascot over her lingerie pictures

Tracy Chandler, a 40-year-old hairdresser and mother of three, was dismissed from her volunteer gig as Championship side Doncaster Rovers' mascot "Donny Dog" for posing in lingerie with Donny's head for the Sunday Sport. The Sun has one of the images in question, which is exactly as funny as a woman posing in lingerie next to a mascot dog head sounds. According to Chandler, they were intended to be "tongue-in-cheek and not seedy."

Chandler says she was Britain's only female football mascot. But, after four years of wearing the costume at matches and charity functions under no written contract, she was "devastated" by getting the sack.

From the Guardian:

Ms Chandler told BBC Five Live: "I'm absolutely devastated. I've not stopped crying all morning. It just said that they didn't need my services any more and that I'd disgraced the club."

She told the station she was "disgusted" by what has happened to her.

"I've raised a lot of money for charity. I've fetched Donny Dog out of hiding. I'm the one who pushed him into charity work."

A spokesman for Doncaster Rovers said the club would not be commenting.

The story gets stranger yet as Chandler says the pictures raised money for the NSPCC -- a charity that fights child abuse -- for which Doncaster players posed in a naked calendar last year (NSFW video here). Perhaps the problem was the publication in which she appeared more than the pictures themselves, but with the club saying nothing on the matter, it seems there's a double standard at play. And because of that, the world is now without Donny Dog.

UPDATE: Justice has been done and Donny Dog is un-fired! Hooray!
