Shaun Phillips Replaces James Harrison on AFC Pro Bowl Roster

The league's No. 1 defense will now have a representative at the Pro Bowl.

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips was named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad on Tuesday as the replacement for Super Bowl-bound Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison.

Phillips will join two teammates at the Pro Bowl on Jan. 30 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu: San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers and guard Kris Dielman, who were part of the league's most productive offense. Chargers tight end Antonio Gates also was selected to the Pro Bowl but won't be able to play because of a foot injury.

It is the first Pro Bowl berth for Phillips, who led the Chargers with 11 sacks. He won AFC defensive player of the week honors for his performance in an Oct. 3 win against Arizona in which he had four sacks and returned an interception for a touchdown.

Phillips said he was grateful for the chance to play in the Pro Bowl and also was glad, from a team perspective, that the Chargers' defense finally had some representation on the AFC squad.
