It's always impressive when a player hits a half-court buzzer beater. It's even more impressive when that shot somehow wins a game. And when that game is the championship matchup of a tournament? That's another level entirely.
With that said, it's worth taking more than a cursory look at this shot by Garber (Okla.) High star Sydney Postier, who not only nailed a mid-courter, but did so after intentionally fouling to send a Pond Creek-Hunter (Okla.) High player to the foul line for a one-and-one, taking the subsequent miss and pushing the ball up just beyond midcourt in time to fire off a shockingly composed jumper.
"I've shot five 3-pointers my entire career and two of them happened to be tonight and they just went in," Postier told the Enid News. "I didn't know how much time was left so I just threw it up there and hoped for the best."
The best was good enough for Garber to earn the championship of the Skeltur Conference tournament, despite featuring a young team anchored almost solely by Postier's experience. The junior finished with 20 of the Wolverines' points in the 46-45 upset, including two buckets that kept Garber close when the Panthers threatened to put the game away.
All of that set the stage for Postier's dramatic moment, with which she delivered a memorable win and big boost of confidence for her coach and teammates.
"We're such a young basketball team and Sydney is our oldest player," Garber coach Jamie Davis told the News. "We wanted the ball in her hands at the end. She was having to keep the clock in her head. She crossed half-court and let it go. It didn't even hit the rim. It was a beautiful shot."
