Busted may be the wrong word. Decapitated is more like it.
Here's Marin Cilic smashing his racquet during a mini-meltdown in his second-round match against Janko Tipsarevic in Miami:
That second smash was the best forehand Cilic hit all day. The problem with the first attempt was that he let go of the racquet too early. You sacrifice all the force when you let go of the grip before smashing. (Like my dad taught me, when using a hammer, always hit through the nail.) Cilic's follow-up was much better form. In the business, we call that "learning from our mistakes."
Cilic would go on to lose to Tipsarevic a few points later. The final score was 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Fellow Croatian, Ivo Karlovic saw the highlight and Tweeted about it that day:
At least something positive came out of the day.
