Multiple reports came out late Friday night and early Saturday morning, indicating that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall was stabbed on Friday night and was placed in the intensive care unit of an unknown hospital. A source close to Marshall told Fox Sports' Jay Glazer that Marshall is "not in imminent danger" of dying. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Marshall was stabbed in the stomach, that no vital organs were pierced, and that Marshall is expected to make a full recovery in two to three weeks.
Reports also indicate that Marshall was stabbed by his wife. Glazer reported that doctors were originally told that Marshall's wife threw something at him which broke and cut him, but that a stabbing was the eventual diagnosis. Marshall's wife, Michi Nogami-Marshallwas subsequently arrested on one charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and admitted to stabbing her husband with a kitchen knife after she was read her Miranda rights, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Kelly also reports that Mrs. Nogami-Marshall claimed that the stabbing was in self-defense.
Kennard McGuire, Marshall's agent, released a short statement Saturday morning. "This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family. Thankfully, he will make a full recovery. We simply ask that his privacy is respected."
Selected in the fourth round of the 2006 draft by the Denver Broncos out of Central Florida, Marshall caught over 100 passes in each NFL season from 2007 through 2009 for the Broncos before he was traded to the Dolphins in April of 2010. In his first season with Miami, Marshall caught 86 passes for 1,014 yards and three touchdowns. After the trade, Marshall agreed to a four-year, $47.5 million deal with $24 million in guaranteed money.
Marshall had not been involved in any off-field incidents during his time with the Dolphins, but was arrested multiple times during his Broncos career. He also injured himself during an altercation with a family member in March of 2008, when he fell through a television screen and cut his right forearm, sustaining damage to tendons, nerves, and veins.
