Auburn Fans Enjoy the Ride as Cam Newton Leads Tigers to BCS Title Game

Cam Newton leads Auburn to SEC Championship over South CarolinaATLANTA -- Sixteen hours before kickoff for the SEC Championship Game, Auburn's most famous alum in the country stepped into the deejay booth in a midtown Atlanta club. "Auburn's gonna win tomorrow," Charles Barkley growled over the microphone "and for the next 30 minutes all the drinks in the house are on me!"

The crowd exploded in cheers, bumrushing the bar. From the deejay booth, Barkley directed that the DJ Khaled song, "All I Do Is Win" -- Auburn's theme song this year -- be played and then led the bar in singing along. Asked if he was worried about how much the bar tab would be, Barkley replied, "Not as long as it's less than $55 million."

It was a confident opening move for Auburn in the city, Atlanta, that has more Auburn alumni than any other in the country. (Yes, even Birmingham). In a stadium filled to the brim with orange and blue, Auburn fans roared to their heart's content, united in a renegade spirit. Cecil Newton may have tried to sell Cam Newton's services to Mississippi State. And the media may have released story after story about Newton's family that has made Cam a national pariah.

But for Auburn fans, none of that matters.

A win now is better than a vacated win in a few years. (This may be something the Tigers learned from Alabama after all).
