As we’ve seen with the Eagles multiple times this season, there was a tale of two teams in Sunday’s win against the Giants. Through three quarters of football, the Eagles high powered offense was only able to walk away with 10 points.
In the fourth quarter, it was a completely different story. As it looked like the Eagles would lose in embarrassing fashion and drop the lead in the NFC East, Michael Vick decided that he simply wouldn’t have that.
Knowing that the Eagles needed to score quickly, Vick was able to hit a streaking Brent Celek down the middle of the field and cut the lead back to 14 points just seconds after the Giants had pushed their lead back to 21.
This seemed to be the point where the Eagles really thought they could climb back in this game. Behind much stronger play in the second half out of their defense and special teams, the Eagles were able to keep getting the ball back into the hands of Vick.
After not looking to run that often early in the game, Vick saw many seams in the Giants defense as plays developed and took advantage of them all. He used every ounce of athleticism in his body during the fourth quarter as he was ducking defenders and using his speed to gain large chunks of yardage at a time.
Vick took the Eagles offense in the fourth quarter and put them on his back. He made all the throws he needed to and was unstoppable when he decided to pull the ball down and run with it.
In the first half, I was not very happy with the way Vick played. I feel that the interception he threw was easily the worst of this season, and the offense just seemed to be very flat.
Obviously, when the Eagles needed him the most, Vick stepped up big time.
You don’t want to see your team be put in that kind of situation, but at the same time you have to be extremely happy with the way Vick played down the stretch. He was extremely clutch and did everything he needed to in order to give the Eagles a chance to win.
Sure, DeSean Jackson’s punt return was amazing, but he would have never had the opportunity to make that kind of play if it wasn’t for Vick’s performance in the fourth quarter.
