The look of a man who lost his home winning streak and La Liga

When Sporting Gijon beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, they not only ended Jose Mourinho's nine-year, 150 match home unbeaten streak, but they also virtually ended Real's chances of winning La Liga. After the loss and before Barcelona beat Villarreal to extend their lead to eight points, Jose admitted as much to the press:

"The mathematicians say the league is not lost, but objectively, we can say that it is practically impossible."

In the final minutes of that loss to Sporting, as he looked over to opposing manager Manuel Preciado, Jose's facial expression said it all. He looked queasy.

Not so much because it was at that moment that he realized La Liga wasn't as easy as he might have thought, that maybe he can't win trophies just by existing or because the dream of completing his "grand slam" (league titles in England, Italy and Spain) would have to wait. No, it was more the realization that he shouldn't have eaten that egg salad sandwich he found under his car seat before the match. That thing had to be at least three months old.
