Federer, Nadal and Sharapova get personalized Oregon jerseys

As far as tennis exhibitions go, the one Tuesday night at the University of Oregon was pretty nondescript. There was some playful banter, celebrity judges (former Oregon football stars Joey Harrington and Dennis Dixon), a surprise guest (John McEnroe) and lackluster tennis accompanied by live microphones. (No, there weren't any fireworks as a result, ANDRE AND PETE.)

So the highlight might have come at the end when Nike presented the five players at the exo -- Rafael Nadal, John McEnroe, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka and Roger Federer -- with personalized Oregon football jerseys. With Nike chairman and Oregon benefactor Phil Knight on hand, the five tennis stars donned the different Oregon jerseys to a standing ovation from the crowd.

For a company that makes such good-looking tennis clothing, Nike sure makes some ugly football kits, most notably the neon and green and duck-like Oregon jerseys. Federer looks like a crossing guard in his. The jersey numbers look like the font a nine-year-old would use on a book report cover.

By the way, am I wrong to think that of all the players, Maria Sharapova looks like she'd be the best at football? She has the lanky frame of a receiver. Everybody else looks more like a kicker.

Nike has yet to release any good photos of the event, so the one above was courtesy an Oregon student who attended the exo and got some great shots in the process. Racquet clap to C. Breanne Thomas.
