DTotD: Tickling a canine pitch invader into submission

The 2010 Swedish Damallsvenskan champions LdB Malmo beat 2009 WPS champions Sky Blue FC 1-0 in the International Tournament of Champions final on Saturday. During the match, a dog decided to take up residence inside the box, halting play as attempts were made to remove it. The dog would not comply, though. Resisting attempts to drag it off like a little kid throwing a wicked temper tantrum.

Once it escaped the clutches of the guy dragging it, the dog ran over to a group of players, who petted it and even rubbed its belly. Which is just unacceptable. I mean, how can we deter more dogs from becoming pitch invaders in the future when they know free belly rubs await them out there?

The gentler approach proved effective, though. Once the dog was lulled into a blissful state, Sky Blue's Allie Long and Casey Nogueira carried it off to the side so the match could resume.

The lesson here? If you're an animal and you invade the pitch at a women's match, you'll be politely escorted off. If you're an animal and you invade the pitch at a men's match, you'll get kicked to death.
