2011 NFL Mock Draft: Arizona Passes On A Quarterback For Defensive Help

Despite Having A Need At Quarterback, Arizona Opts To Rebuild Their Defensive Line With Marcell Dareus

Arizona is in a tricky spot. They have a desperate need for a quarterback and with Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton sitting on the board they will be under a lot of pressure to take one of those guys.

But when you really look at this Arizona team, their problems run a lot deeper than just at quarterback, their defense was awful and they would be better served to use their first pick on that area of the team.

Marcell Dareus was great for Alabama, and he really impressed at the combine with his strength and quickness. He could be a better prospect than Nick Fairley, the other top defensive tackle in the draft.

Plus, with a guy like Ryan Mallett, quarterback from Arkansas, likely falling out of the first-round, the Cardinals will be able to spend a later pick on their need at quarterback and get more value.
