FanHouse Exclusive: Auburn, Oregon Players Favor a Playoff

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- While the university presidents and Bowl Championship Series conference commissioners are strongly opposed to a college football playoff, the players from Auburn and Oregon actually favor participating in a playoff, according to a FanHouse poll.

Of the 163 Auburn and Oregon players FanHouse interviewed on Friday, 39 percent said they favored a college playoff, 29 percent were opposed and 32 percent said they had no preference.

FanHouse spoke to 92 Oregon players and 71 Auburn players at Friday's BCS national title game media day at the Camelback Inn.

The most passionate advocate for a playoff was Oregon junior defensive end Nick Musgrove, who admitted he had "done a little homework" on the subject.

"We're the only major sport without a playoff," Musgrove told FanHouse.

Musgrove said he would favor a 16-team playoff and doesn't buy the argument it would take too many games. He also said a playoff could be incorporated in a way to include the bowls and would not diminish the bowls not involved with a playoff.

"How relevant are the (minor) bowls now?" Musgrove said. "Relevant is not an issue. Having a national championship is not going to make the GoDaddy.com Bowl any better or any worse."

Oregon's players actually preferred a playoff more than Auburn's players.
