What's wrong with Caroline Wozniacki?

Whatever Caroline Wozniacki's New Year's resolution was, it may be time to ditch it. The world No. 1 suffered a straight-sets loss to Dominika Cibulkova in her opening match of the 2011 season at the Sydney Invitational. The loss came one week after Wozniacki dropped two straight matches in an exhibition in Tokyo.

It's not the best start for the 20-year-old Dane, whose reign atop the rankings has been plagued by whispers that she's not No. 1 material. A poor result at next week's Australian Open will only intensify the criticisms.

Wozniacki isn't worried, though. From The Australian:

"I'm going into Melbourne and having my head high. I'm playing good, I'm playing well, just need to get that going in matches. [...]

"I didn't feel that I was playing great tennis out there, so definitely now I just need to get some sets going and some training matches," she said.

"You know, last year I had the same start, so hopefully slow start, good finish (she reached the fourth round in Melbourne last year).

"(I just need) to get everything together, all the puzzles together that I've been working on, and to make everything function and not just one thing and then the other thing isn't working. I want everything to just click."

At Forty Deuce, C Note said Wozniacki's comments were delusional. (I quote her because then I don't have to say it.) Wozniacki opens that quote by saying she's playing well, but then comes back to say she wasn't playing great tennis. So which is it?

She then mentions that she lost her opening match in Sydney last year, but had a good finish. Yet that "good finish" was a fourth-round loss at the Australian Open; a result that would be an utter and abject failure this time around. 

To cap it all off, Wozniacki says she wants everything to just click. Oh, Caro. That's loser talk. It's the sort of thing people say when they expect to be defeated. You can't "want" everything to click -- you have to make it click yourself.
