NBA Playoffs 2011: Boston Celtics Need Kevin Garnett to Play Big Against Heat

Kevin Garnett looks to lead Celtics past Miami Heat in 2011 Conference Semifinals

In a situation where LeBron James will surely be stepping up with his best efforts, Kevin Garnett will need to do the same if the Celtics hope to move past James and the Miami Heat.

Garnett has been an integral part of the Celtics' success in recent years, but his play has declined slightly as of late leaving many to wonder whether or not his best days are behind him.

The Celtics sure hope not. Garnett averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Celtics' three wins against the Heat in the regular season. With the stakes raised, the Boston faithful will hope that Garnett can up his production as the series gets underway.

What doesn't show up in the box score is the leadership that Garnett displays every time he takes to the court. A 16 year veteran in the league Garnett is one of the fiercest competitors in the NBA and his passion tends to spark a passion in teammates in crunch time.

Both his productivity and minutes have decreased since the Celtics' championship run in 2008, but he is still clearly one of the most effective defenders in the league.

The Celtics will need every ounce of his defensive ability if they hope to knock off a loaded Miami Heat team that has every motivation to prove doubters wrong.
