2011 NFL Draft: The SEC Proves It's Better Than Every Other Conference Again

The 2011 NFL Draft showed us something that most of us already knew: the SEC just has better talent than everyone else.

We always hear the SEC has more athletes, they have more speed and overall, they're just more talented! Well, the way this draft and past ones have gone, it seems to be true. 

Here is the count for BCS conferences draft picks this year: 

SEC: 38 

Pac-12: 37 

Big Ten: 36 

ACC: 35 

Big East: 22 

Big 12: 19 

The numbers are somewhat different because Nebraska is now added to the Big Ten, while Utah and Colorado are added to the Pac-12. Even with those changes however, the SEC still had more draft picks.

The Big East and Big-12 combined only had three more players taken than the SEC!

Four of the first five picks and 10 overall players picked in the 1st round were from the SEC (Cam Newton, Marcell Dareus, A.J. Green, and Patrick Peterson being the top four).

It also helps the conferences reputation as well when seven of the 13 BCS champions have been from the SEC including the last five. 

I am a Pac-12 supporter, being from the West Coast, and am always upset about how much exposure East Coast teams get, but the stats prove they are better than everyone else.

It all really comes down to recruiting. Talent is plentiful throughout the country, but much is concentrated in the Southeast, and those teams are able to make sure they stay close making there conference that much better.

I think this draft shows that the top notch talent does lie in the SEC, and most likely will for years to come.
