2011 Kentucky Derby Field Without Major Player
Uncle Mo is the clear cut favorite in this year's Kentucky Derby. Todd Pletcher's 5-2 favorite won last year's juvenile Breeder's Cup as well as the Champagne Stakes and Timely Writer Stakes.
The greatest threat to Uncle Mo claiming the most prestigious title in all of horse racing had been Toby's Corner, the three-year old who upset Uncle Mo Resorts Casino New York Wood Memorial a month ago at Aqueduct.
That's no longer the case.
Toby's Corner's trainer Graham Motion noticed a problem with the horse's hind leg at a session and immediately sent him to a hospital, the New Bolton Center in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Motion's horse owns as 4-0-2 record in six starts with $722,240 in earnings but won't be competing at Churchill Downs.
According to Deirdre B. Biles of BloodHorse.com,
The loss of Toby's Corner opens the Kentucky Derby door for Ken and Sarah Ramsey's Derby Kitten, winner of the April 23 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (Grade 3).
