Davey Becks is reportedly close to joining Spurs on loan and as Harry Redknapp's boys wait for him to join them, the gaffer has revealed just how this serendipitous Beckham business first came about.
From the Independent:
"He spoke to my son, to Jamie, about it and that's how it all came about," Redknapp said. "Jamie rang me, said he'd spoken to David Beckham and would we be interested? He just said, 'I'd like to come back and play and I'd fancy playing for Tottenham, because I like the way they play.'
"I said yes, I would be interested. I can't help but admire a boy who wants to come here and play football when he could be sat in the sun for three months in Los Angeles. I don't know whether it'll happen, whether they will let him move. It's probably 50-50, but David's dead keen."
You know who doesn't admire a (35-year-old) boy who wants to play football when he could be sat in the sun for three months in Los Angeles? L.A. Galaxy fans. And David's Achilles.
According to The Sun, Beckham and Jamie Redknapp had that initial conversation when they happened to bump into each other in Harrods. As you can see in the cruddy photoshop above, I like to imagine that Jamie was wearing a top hat and Becks a bow tie when they had their chance meeting in the tourist-gouging department store. I also imagine Becks wandered around that store for days, hoping to find a relative of Harry's who could relay his message of praise. And then maybe he bought an overpriced canoe.
